Overview
Phulchowki is a popular day excursion destination located inside Kathmandu valley. Known for its beautiful vistas and abundance of flowers, the hill station sits at an elevation of 2750 meters above sea level and is a great option for those who do not want to spend multiple days trekking to see the snow-capped Himalayas. The name “Phulchowki” means “hill full of flowers” in Nepali and it truly lives up to its name in the springtime when the hills are covered in a variety of wildflowers and trees.
Visitors can take the Phulchowki Day Hike which begins with a short drive to Godawari, the base of Phulchowki. The trail winds uphill through lush foliage and tall trees, passing through small farm communities. The hike continues through dense vegetation to the summit of Phulchowki Hill, the highest point in the area, offering a bird’s-eye view of the Kathmandu Valley, nearby villages and unexpected views of the Himalayan mountain range including Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh, Langtang, Jugal and Mt. Everest.
Aside from the breathtaking views, the area is also well-known for bird-watching and observing religious ceremonies at the Phulchowki Mai Temple during the months of March and April. It is an excellent site for botanists and naturalists and offers a chance to explore the rich biodiversity in a peaceful setting. The Phulchowki Day Hike allows visitors to take in the natural beauty and make for a memorable and enjoyable holiday experience.
