What Nepal has to offer is placed beyond just a point on the map but through an experience that will be remembered as a lifetime adventure that resonates deep within the soul.

The oldest known country as one of the best places for trekkers has not prevented Nepal from being included in a category where trekking is not just ordinary between-woods trekking.

It's a way to explore the most amazing scenery and cultural sites, where you challenge yourself both physically and mentally. It's a time of weaving into vibrant, ancient cultures that touch people's hearts.

Nepal is the best country for a trekking experience, but it can be quite confusing because of the numerous reserved trekking places. In this article, we are going to discuss one of the most exciting trekking destinations in Nepal. This place is loved by many; the upper Mustang region in Nepal is famous for giving an unforgettable trekking experience.

Upper Mustang is one of the most popular regions in Nepal, though it is isolated and rich in culture and heritage. The upper Mustang region of Nepal is known to be bordering Tibet. This small remote and culturally rich area has an unforgettable trekking experience.

Entering into the land of the upper Mustang is entering a time machine. It is a land carved by the wind and time with ancient monasteries, unique cave dwellings, and a very alive Tibetan Buddhist culture, relatively untouched by modern influences.

This 15-day trek will allow you to experience a lifetime of the once-forbidden kingdom, its raw beauty, and cultural traditions, which will capture your heart and leave it imprinted.

Arrive at Kathmandu

You should book an early flight to enjoy a maximum day's visit and view the magnificent Himalayas on your approach to Pokhara. On arrival, spend the rest of the day wandering the beautiful lakeside city soaking into the place. Most nature lovers will find a peaceful and vibrant culture on this path. Many cafes, restaurants, and shops along the lakeside to explore will be waiting for you. However, even this day could furnish scope for your last-minute preparations before your trekking journey. Apart from going through gear, one can buy last-minute necessities and learn about altitude and climate adjustment. All these would enable you to be well prepared for the upcoming adventure.

Fly Kathmandu-Pokhara

True adventure begins this morning as we prepare for an early morning flight to Jomsom, this bustling town beyond the mass of the Himalayas. The entire flight will not disappoint, as it offers breathtaking aerial views of snow-capped peaks and river valleys so deep. Jomsom is the entry point into the mystic Upper Mustang, and it wouldn't take you long to see the change of landscape from a busy city. Upon arrival, we will start walking towards Kagbeni, a little village that marks the true beginning of our Long Mustang journey. The first stretch is a gentle, acclimatizing walk where you would enjoy nice views and walk along the powerful Kali Gandaki river, keeping company with the sound of rushing water. Finally, we arrive at Kagbeni, a picturesque village lying poised on the triad between the two streams, the Kali Gandaki and Jhong. Think of stone houses with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze as a perfect introduction to what we should expect in the Upper Mustang as far as distinctive architecture and culture go. The evening will be spent savoring this beautiful village, taking in the calm, and contemplating some of the tougher days to come.

Fly to Jomsom and Trek to Kagbeni

This trek will take us deeper into Upper Mustang's landscapes. Ascend from a beautiful river valley and step into the parched areas with cliffs and rust-colored hills. The trail will then snake through a handful of small, quaint hamlets that will give you a glimpse of the locals' traditions. It will also involve crossing small streams, and the coolness of the water will make one forget that they are in an almost dry climate. Today will mark the resilience of the land and its people who stay here. Imagine, as you walk, the vastness of skies above and this solitude that is so unique to this Himalayan region; the trek will come down to Chele, a village that hangs like a spider on a mountainside and arises before you in the most beautiful rounds of the surrounding countryside. Tonight, we will relax and refresh ourselves in the simple comforts of trekker lodgings in the beautifully hushed silence.

Trek to Chele

Beginning today is much more exciting than previous trekking tours to Upper Mustang. Leaving behind Chele, one is truly on a bewitching and challenging route, physically and immensely rewarding given the incomparable beauty, sharper gradients, trail-hugging cliff faces, and sheer walls of rock. It will take an effort to focus on one's step; however, the reward has kept the competition steep. Today's sceneries include dramatic rock formations, vast gorges, and seemingly endless sweeping views. These will be arranged in the stops of the tour that will bring us to the slightly traditional villages that embrace the hillsides, so giving us quite a proper view of the cultural heritage that can be found in this region. Here we get a lot of the experience of typical Mustang culture, local architecture, and possibly even a sighting of local religious rituals. This is where agri-fields will be seen in this seemingly barren land. Finally, we shall be getting closer to Syanboche, a village that sprang out from the earth. When we get there, we'll all agree on how much the efforts spent today were worth the stunning landscapes and unique vibrant culture Mustang can boast of. We will stay here overnight, reflecting on the adventures so far and the adventures that lie ahead.

Trek to Syanboche

Today takes you hiking through an incredibly stark beauty- and the actual landscape is almost barren, it has some strange, lunar qualities. The path curves on this earth spreading, almost vast all around you, scattered with the silent watches of mani walls-these were structures made of stone and so well designed that every stone is carved with Tibetan Buddhist mantras, and graceful, dome-shaped chortens, harbingers of spiritual devotion. Let yourself yield to the culture and ancient beauty of the fabulous corner of the world. It peaks into isolation most deep and space open above, and it almost brings both feeling and smallness with which you can feel entirely suffused.

Trek to Ghami: Embarking on a Barren Odyssey

Your journey advances toward Tsarang, a village settled in the heart of the Himalayas. Today's attraction is the longest mani wall in all of Nepal. This wall, stretching over what appears almost endlessly, demonstrates the devotion and faith of the local people. Millions of stones carved with sacred mantras create a thick atmosphere of respect. At the close of the day, you come to rest within the tranquil embrace of Tsarang, the perfect place to think about all the exquisite beauty and depth you have encountered spiritually. The silence of evening provides an atmosphere perfect for washing over one in the atmosphere of this unique place.

Trek to Tsarang: Witnessing the Longest Mani Wall

Lo Manthang, today beyond those miles, is a historic and legendary capital of the Kingdom of Mustang. Every step closer inched towards that anticipation, and the dry miles slowly transformed the horizon into a view laden with chortens and prayer wheels- luring symbols of devotion peppering the landscape to the walled city. Entering, discover a history and architecture unique to this ancient kingdom, which held within it a culture and flavor undiluted through the ages.

Trek to Lo Manthang: Approaching the Walled Capital

Inhale the breath of mystery today as you explore Lo Manthang. Step into the imposing walled city, whose narrow winding alleys and whitewashed houses stand invitingly against the vibrant life of the community. The Royal Palace, which still harks back to the city's halcyon days, and the richly decorated monasteries, which all have their own stories and traditions, await visitors' curiosities. Lo Manthang is a place to be invited into the distinctiveness of cultural practice, where centuries-old traditions still echo in the daily life and rituals of its inhabitants. This is a chance to get intimate with the heart and soul of this great place.

Discover Lo Manthang: Unveiling a Walled Treasure

Today, this trek will take you out of the walls of Lo Manthang and across the valley to ancient Chossar caves. These mysterious constructions upon the cliffs are hollowed out at great heights inside. This dramatic landscape around the caves is yet another striking arena for exploration, completely unrealistically weaving together its colors and textures in this dry environment. As you look upon these ruins from time immemorial-you will weigh how heavy time itself is along with the stories hidden within those very rocks.

Trekking to the Chossar Caves: It Is Turning Leaves Back into History

Returning from Lo Manthang, I will take a different path today to Dhakar. It must be a little different to enter a completely new view of the landscape you have traveled. The familiar mountains and valleys will look new, presenting both a peculiar angle and a better appreciation of this region's topography. Each step brings new angles, colors, and details to light.

Trek to Dhakmar: Retracing Steps with New Perspectives

As you continue your descent towards Ghiling, the beautiful scenery transforms once again and takes a mighty red cliff tower over you, all those wonderfully colored compared with the drier rocky valley. The whole area counts among the most unequal but exceptionally beautiful places on the earth, all the result of bludgeoning by the great forces shaping this land. The feeling of the descent and opening of views ahead is bound to shed a differently colored light on the journey up.

Trek to Ghiling: Descending through Red Cliffs

Cutting through with the choosier beauty and depth of the landscapes and cultures along the way, you are back on the descent to Chusang today. You will be welcomed through most doors without failed open arms from local communities and there you can learn something about their daily routines and heritage. Spend more time looking closely at the oddities and the trip as it unfolds towards Chusang.

Trek to Chhusang: Embracing the Unique Cultures Along the Way

The trek on the last day finally leads you away from the main trail in Jomsom, finishing this great loop of adventurous travel. While trekking, memories, and impressions of the former days will come into your mind. This time is to celebrate everything you went through: the challenges, the beauty, and, last but not least, the connection you made with the beautiful and majestic mountains. You'll walk back into Jomsom, filled with all the emotions from this monumental experience.

taking to the track under the Circle of the Trek

And just like that, you are done trekking and ready for a pleasant flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. This flight will offer you one last chance to look at the breathtaking Himalayas. Then, you can travel further to Kathmandu from Pokhara. Once settled, the rest of the day can be spent exploring the vibrant city or taking a rest and reliving the memories made. The departure plan for your journey home can be put into place, allowing you to depart with a wealth of experiences to remember. The trek is over, but the memories will last a lifetime.
