Overview

Ama Yangri Trek is a recently inaugurated trekking trail in close proximity to Kathmandu. Ama Yangri peak, in the Helambu region of Sindhupalchowk district, is a hidden gem and one of the best hikes close to the Kathmandu valley. Ama Yangri, at an elevation of 3,771 meters, is one of the towering mountains surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. From there, you have a breathtaking panorama of the Langtang Range, Annapurna, Manaslu, and even Everest. This is why the Annapurna region’s Poon hill is often used as a metaphor for the Ama Yangri Trek.

According to myth, Ama Yangri is a divine protector who watches over the entire Hyolmo valley. The locals refer to Ama Yang-Ri (Ama Yangri Protector of the Entire Hyolmo Valley), also known as “Yang Rill Mountain,” as “mother Yangri.” Dakini Yangri has become the regional goddess of compassion and protection via the power of her compassion.

Natural and geographically fascinating, this trekking excursion offers sightseers a glimpse of the Hyolmo people and their unique culture, as well as the majestic Himalayas. The Langtang Range, Annapurna Mountains, Manaslu, and even Everest can be seen from relatively low elevations on a clear day. Helambhu Sherpas are distinct from their Khumbu and Rolwaling counterparts in appearance, language, and culture. This is a famous Thanka art site.

The environment, dense forests, and picturesque villages along the trail are nothing short of breathtaking. Those in search of a quick and simple hike close to Kathmandu should consider this route.
