This place is also known as the heart of Langtang National Park. Many called it Surya Kunda Trek which is at an elevation of 14,370 ft (4,380 m). You can explore around 108 lakes on the way to Gosaikunda Trek in different places along the way. Among these Gosaikunda, Saraswatikunda, and Bhairabkunda are major ones. Gosaikunda also known as the home of Lord Shiva holds religious values too. Tamang community has also its cultural values. All the people of different castes reside here together following each other's culture and traditions.

Karnali River, one of Nepal's longest rivers, also flows from the Gosaikunda Lake. Trek difficulty of the Gosaikunda Lake Pilgrimage Trek

If you wish to go on a trek that is easy but want many things to explore then, you can put Gosaikunda in your bucklelists. The trip to Gosaikunda is not so difficult and have flat trails at most of the places walking in the bank of the rivers. Also, the trials are almost fixed by making a concrete route so the trekkers won't face any issues by rain, or slippery trails. You can enjoy the climbs with ups and downs hills walking with the rocky route and the windblowing slow wind through the forest. The smell and view of rhododendrons will make you lost in their beauty. You have to walk approximately 117 km in the total distance starting from an elevation of 2,000m to landing on 4,380m.

Both, the inexperienced and experienced one can complete this trek easily having good health and stamina. You have to roughly walk for around 6-to-7 hours a day on this trail. After getting at a high altitude you may feel some change in altitude so you must acclimate your body to the higher altitude during the climb.

Spring Season:

Spring Season is the best time for Gosaikunda hiking as it starts from late February to Early June. This season provides a warm temperature with balanced weather where we can enjoy every corner of the Himalayas peaks and clear skies. In this season, we can see a vibrantly blooming view of Rhododendron forests which is the national flower of Nepal that offers you the best stunning scenery along the way. We can also experience temperatures around 18 degrees Celcius to 30 degrees Celcius in the daytime and 6 degrees Celcius to 18 degrees Celcius at night. The day of Janai Purnima it is believed that this is the day when we must need to bath our bodies in the lake to wash away our sins and on the day of Gangadashara, it is believed that the Lord Ganga has been sitting on the bottom ground level of the lake. Dushera is when ten sins are destroyed. Ten physical, mental, and verbal sins are removed by same-day virtual deeds.

According to Buddhists, they also have their value in this lake. All the Buddhists mostly Tamang visit here to pray for their dead loved ones' afterlife well-being. On the same day as Janai Purnima, Jhankhris goes there to chant and perform there by singing a song.

Itinerary

You will arrive at Kathmandu on this day. You will be picked up from the Airport by our team representative. We will drop you off at the hotel where you can have some rest and prepare for the trek.

Arrive at Kathmandu(1355m)

We will start our trek from Kathmandu. We will catch a bus from the nearby location where you stay and start the trip. We can enjoy the beauty of terrace fields, and Himalayas peaks like Manaslu and Ganesh Himal traveling for around seven to eight hours. We will reach Dhunche in the evening time where will be staying at the local guest house. We will have our dinner there and enjoy the beautiful night by singing, dancing, and campfire.

Drive to Timbu (1580m/5,183ft) - 3 to 4 hours drive

On this day, we will wake up early in the morning and enjoy the view of the Himalayas having breakfast aside. This is the day we will start to hike. We leave the Dhunche and pass the town. Then, we will walk constantly following the route uphill slowly and steadily. We will cross the Trishuli river which will be coming from Gosaikunda Lake. The uphill hike until Chandanbari is a little slow but the green pine forest will make your walk pleasant. After walking for around five hours we will reach Sing Gompa. After getting into the guest house we will get our room where we will have some rest and afterward, we will explore the surrounding monasteries and monks' places. After that, if we have time, we will visit the cheese factory of Sing Gompa and return to our guest house, have dinner, and get sleep.

Dhunche to Sing Gompa(3580m)

On this day, our hike is a little shorter cause we continue to rise in altitude. We will walk around a rugged trail with flawless views to the west Himal Chuli (25,895ft/7893m), the Manaslu range (26,758 ft./8156 m.), the Ganesh Himal range (24,297ft/7406m), Tibetan peaks, and Langtang Lirung (23,710ft/7227m). On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising behind. As we will stay in the Lauribinayak we will be full of surprises and memories as will be viewing the panoramic views of Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Langtang. After, we will reach Lauribinayak, and we will stay there for the night having our dinner.

Sing Gompa to Lauribinayak(4300m)

This is the day when we will reach our destination. The trek of today will take around three to four hours to reach the lakes at Gosainkunda in time for lunch. Time and energy levels permitting, we can make the one-hour walk to the highest point at Laurebinayak Pass at 15,091 feet (4600 m.), or go over to the viewpoint above the lake, from where there are dramatic mountain views. Alternatively, just chill and enjoy the lake views. It's your choice. After some time in Gosaikunda, we will get down to Laurebinayak. In the evening time, we will enjoy the eye-catching sunset which gets into the mountain's peaks, and have our night.

Lauribinayak(4300m) to Gosaikunda(4380m) and again back to Lauribinayak

This day we have to walk a little more. We need to walk for around 6 to 7 hours covering the distance of around 19km. The trails are a little longer but the stunning and panoramic views navigate you through alpine terrain mostly covered with green dense forest. The journey should be easier on the way down than it was coming up, as your altitude decreases. Enjoy some well-deserved cheese at Sing Gompa. After having some rest there and capturing some memories we will continue our journey we will reach Dhunche on the same day. After having some refreshments there we will have our dinner and stay there.

Lauribinayak to Dhunche(2030m)

This is the last day of our hiking where we will have early breakfast at Dhunche and get ready to take a ride to Kathmandu. Remembering all the memories and seeing side-by-side we will return back to Kathmandu where the journey ends.

Back to Kathmandu from Dhunche

This is your departure day. We will provide you with souvenir and a certificate marking completion of the trek. You can do last moment shopping or plan for other activities on this day.

There is no age restriction for trekkers who are willing to join the Manaslu Base Camp trek but those who have health issues and somehow child are suggested to not go as it has uphill trails. One with great confidence and self-motivation can make it easily following the guides.

You need to have a permit from two different authorities to make a trek to Gosaikunda as it is under their control for its sustainable preservation and to provide easy access to reach the destination through the development of the trails. Yes, recently NEA (Nepal Electricity Authority) has planted the grid power to Goisakunda where people mostly depend upon solar energy previously. Now, electricity is available most of the time in every place nearer to Gosaikunda. You can access electricity in tea houses and other places too. Well, the internet connection is not wisely in use as the internet is wireless everywhere over there. So, there can be issues with internet connection due to various factors like rain, fog, temperature, and many more. So, it will be better if you have data connectivity as a backup for yourself.

At the very first you need to have a TIMS permit so that you can be under the surveillance of government to ensure your safety. Another special permit is from Langtang National Park Permit which is issued to go through the conservation area. These two permits are necessary for the trek to Gosaikunda.

There is no limitation on the weight of your backpack, you can pack it according to your itinerary and the days you are staying there. Getting lots of stuff will be more disappointing for your are your porters as they have to walk along with you carrying your stuff. This trek doesn’t need prior experience or any equipment like crampons, poles, ropes, or any other technical equipment, cause we have seen people in their 60s also getting to the Gosaikunda and enjoying each step with fun and excitement. Anyone with good physical health, full stamina, and motivation who wants to touch the foot of the holy place Gosaikunda can surely complete it.

The trek to reach Gosaikunda from Dhunche will be of 4 to 5 days covering up a total distance of approximately 27 km. Following and going exactly according to the itinerary passing the different villages and beautiful spots, it will take you 4 days walking slowly and steadily following your guides.

The starting point of Gosaikunda Trek is Dhunche. Upto Dhunche we will travel by bus from Kathmandu covering up around 87 kilometers. So, the trek will mainly start from Dhunche which will take us through different places and take us to our final destination Gosaikunda.

Dhunche is said to be the gateway to the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda treks, as it is the headquarters of Rasuwa District. The town is mostly occupied by the Tamang community which is famous for its rich culture, traditional music, and dance.
